BFT Hinge & Roller Replacement: The Agoura Hills Owner’s Guide
We stock BFT-compatible hinge and roller assemblies on our trucks and install them throughout Agoura Hills, typically for $180-$380 per hinge set depending on your gate’s size and whether the post bracket survived. Most BFT hinge failures show up first as a gate that drags at the latch end, scrapes the driveway, or squeals when the operator pushes it through its travel. You’ll usually notice it as a grinding sound that gets worse over two or three weeks, not all at once.
Here’s the thing most Agoura Hills homeowners don’t realize: your BFT operator is still working fine. The motor is pushing. The hinge is just refusing to cooperate. And in the hillside neighborhoods near Chesebro Road, where dust and grade put constant stress on gate hardware, we replace these well before the motor ever thinks about quitting.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
BFT builds swing-gate operators across several lines, and the hinge-and-roller assemblies we replace most often sit on the Deimos, Phobos, and Sub BT series, plus the heavier Rigel and Lux units when they’re paired with steel or ornamental gates. BFT hinges for these series come in different post-offset depths, so a hinge that fits a Deimos on a 4-inch post will not seat correctly on a 6-inch post, even if the bolt pattern looks close. We measure the post, the gate leaf thickness, and the hinge centerline before we order or pull anything.
If you can find the silver ID plate on your operator arm or the hinge itself, grab a photo of it. BFT stamps a part number starting with D571 or D571X on many hinge assemblies used in the Deimos line, and the suffix matters for post spacing. OEM BFT hinges run $120-$210 per hinge depending on the series, and quality aftermarket equivalents from Italian and Spanish suppliers typically land 20-30% under that while holding up equally well in our experience. We will install whichever you prefer, and we note the part number on your invoice either way.
Signs Your BFT Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing

- The gate sags at the latch end. A worn hinge roller lets the gate leaf drop a half-inch or more, which is why the latch no longer lines up with the strike plate. You’ll see daylight under the latch post side first.
- A grinding or scraping sound during travel. That’s the roller running on a flattened bearing surface, and it only gets louder. The sound will change pitch as the gate moves through different points in its arc.
- The operator arm hesitates mid-cycle. Your BFT motor’s limit logic is calibrated for a gate that swings freely. When a hinge binds, the gate slows and the motor draws more current, which can trip the thermal protection.
- Visible rust streaks or metal dust beneath the hinge. That’s the roller’s bearing races shedding material. Once you see rust-colored powder on the post or the driveway below the hinge, the bearing is done.
- The gate bounces slightly at the end of travel. A worn roller lets the gate leaf ride up on its track, then drop. That bounce is the hinge assembly losing its seat.
Before
AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Agoura Hills, a full BFT hinge and roller replacement runs $180-$380 per hinge set installed. The range depends on three things: whether we’re replacing one hinge or both, the series and post offset of your BFT model, and whether the hinge bracket on the post needs reinforcement. Some posts, especially older ones on hillside lots with shifting soil, need a steel backing plate before the new hinge can seat properly. We’ll tell you that before we start, not after.
The price includes the parts, labor, removal of the old assembly, and re-alignment of the gate so the operator limit settings match the restored swing arc. We hand you a written price before any work begins, under Haven Standard Clause 1, and the completed job is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the hinge or roller we install fails within a year, we return and make it right at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?

You can safely do the diagnosis yourself: check for visible sag, listen for grinding, take a photo of the ID plate. But swapping a BFT hinge on a powered gate is not a bolt-off, bolt-on job. The gate leaf is heavy, and when you unbolt a hinge, the leaf wants to drop. That’s a pinch point for fingers and a risk for your back. We use a gate lift and safety stands, and we re-set the operator’s limit positions afterward so the motor isn’t fighting a gate that now swings differently. If you want to try it yourself, that’s your call, but a dropped iron gate is a two-person problem at minimum, and a trip to urgent care at worst. Call us at (424) 388-2906 and we’ll have a technician out with the right part, the right lift, and a written price in hand.
FAQs
On a properly maintained gate, BFT hinge bearings and rollers last 5-8 years in our part of California, though hillside dust and marine air can knock that to 4-5 years on exposed gates. We see faster wear on properties near open hillsides where fine dust works into the bearing seals. Call (424) 388-2906 and we’ll inspect yours and give you a straight answer, with a written quote if replacement is needed.
In most cases, no. Once the roller bearing surfaces are worn, re-greasing or shimming buys you weeks, not years. Replacement of the hinge assembly is the honest fix. We’ll show you the worn part when we remove it, and we’ll note the replacement part number on your written record.
Most single-hinge replacements take 45-90 minutes on site, and a full set on a heavy ornamental gate runs 2-3 hours including re-alignment and operator limit adjustment. We’ll give you a written time estimate before we start, and the price doesn’t change if the job runs long.
Yes. We carry BFT hinge assemblies for the Deimos, Phobos, and Sub BT lines on our service trucks, along with quality aftermarket equivalents. If your model needs a part we don’t have on hand, we can source it within 24-48 hours and return for installation. Alongside BFT, we stock parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls so whatever motor is on your property, we can work on it.
