The welded component varies by model: on the 6002 and 6003 slide operators, the chain idler bracket and the motor mounting plate are the two pieces that carry real load and fail first. On the 9000 series swing operators, the operator post mount and the gate leaf bracket take the beating. On barrier gates, the arm clamp and the counterweight saddle are the usual suspects.

Identifying your part is half the battle. The model and serial plate on DoorKing units sits on the inside of the operator cabinet, usually on the left wall. If that plate is gone or painted over, take a photo of the operator and measure the bolt spacing on the failed bracket. That gives us enough to cross-reference. One compatibility gotcha worth knowing: the 6002 and 6003 share a motor mounting plate, but the 6003’s chain idler bracket is drilled for a larger idler shaft. We’ve seen aftermarket plates sold as “fits all 6000 series” that don’t clear the 6003’s idler. We won’t install one of those. When we can’t get an OEM DoorKing weldment quickly, we fabricate to the original spec, not to a generic pattern. Thickness matters: DoorKing’s original mount plates are 3/16-inch steel on the 6002 and 1/4-inch on the 6003. We match that, and we document the material grade on the written record we leave behind.

Signs Your DoorKing Weld Is Failing

• A gate that scrapes or drags on one side. This is usually a hinge weld that has cracked and allowed the gate to settle. The crack doesn’t need to be visible from the curb for the geometry to be off.
• A clicking or popping sound when the gate starts or stops. On slide operators, a broken weld at the idler bracket lets the chain slack and snap against the sprocket. It sounds like a quiet knock until it isn’t quiet.
• The operator shifts when it runs. If the cabinet rocks or twists under load, the mounting plate has lost its weld at one or more points. The motor then works against a moving target, which accelerates wear on every downstream part.
• Visible cracks at any bracket, hinge, or mounting point. In Agoura Hills, the diurnal temperature swing does real work on metal over time. A hairline crack along a weld toe is the beginning, not the end, of the conversation.
